Did you know that USANA sponsors hundreds of athletes around the world? It’s true. In fact, nearly 200 of our sponsored athletes competed in the 2014 Sochi Winter Games with unprecedented results. If Team USANA were a country, it would have placed second in the overall medal standing with a record 30 podium appearances—with 13 gold, seven silver, and 10 bronze medals to take home.

But that doesn’t even begin to scratch the surface. USANA is also proud to be the Official Health Supplement Supplier of the WTA (Women’s Tennis Association), the United States Ski and Snowboard Association, and many other elite organizations around the world.

So, what makes our products the ultimate choice for 700-plus athletes?

Million Dollar Athlete Guarantee

Everyone loves a product with a guarantee. But how many companies will give an athlete twice their current annual earnings, up to $1 million (USD), if they test positive for a banned substance as a result of taking its products?

Only one. USANA.

Athletes can find their careers in jeopardy if they test positive for a banned substance. That’s why we created the Athlete Guarantee Program, specifically designed for certain Team USANA athletes who need hardcore reassurance that they will not test positive for a banned substance as a result of taking USANA’s nutritional products.

NSF Certification

NSF International is an independent organization that helps protect consumers by certifying products and establishing standards for food, water, and goods. Six of USANA’s world-class products have been further validated through NSF International’s Certified for Sport™ program: Chelated Mineral, Mega Antioxidant, Active Calcium™, Procosa®, Proflavanol® C100, and SportsPak. The program certifies that what is on the label is in the bottle and that the product does not contain undeclared ingredients or unsafe levels of contaminants.

FDA Drug Establishment and Good Manufacturing Practices

USANA voluntarily patterns our facility after the more stringent U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Good Manufacturing Practices for pharmaceuticals as the basis for its quality assurance program, which regulates virtually every aspect of manufacturing. We also adhere to standards set by Health Canada’s Natural Health Product Directorate, which regulates health products for sale in Canada. And USANA meets the rigorous guidelines of the Australian Therapeutic Goods Administration.

In addition, USANA has acquired Drug Establishment Registration with the FDA, which means we operate an FDA-registered facility and follows the FDA’s highest possible standard for manufacturers.

It’s All Comes Down to Quality

The Athlete Guarantee, NSF certifications, and FDA Drug Establishment registration demonstrate USANA’s unfailing commitment to providing safe, pure, and effective supplements for even the most discerning consumer. Our high-quality manufacturing ensures that our products are safe and effective for all customers—including both the professional athlete and weekend warrior.

You can feel good—no, great—about the quality of USANA products.

USANA’s founder, Myron Wentz, Ph.D., created this science-based company because he had a vision of a world free from pain and suffering. A world free from disease.

And he knew science and high-quality manufacturing could help him bring his vision to life.

That’s why our commitment to quality goes beyond the formulas we create.

We manufacture more than 90 percent of our products in our own manufacturing facilities so we can control the entire process, from raw ingredient to finished supplement. John Cuomo, Ph.D., USANA’s executive director of product development and technology, explains, “The main reason to manufacture our products in-house is so we can control the process at every step. This is our house. This is our business. And nobody else is going to take care of it if we don’t.”

In addition to our own high standards of manufacturing, a variety of government agencies conduct periodic inspections of our facilities, requiring strict control of procedures and documentation. Our Salt Lake City, Utah, facility is certified to be in compliance with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) requirements set forth in NSF/ANSI Standard 173-2012, Dietary Supplements by NSF International, and it also became a registered U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Drug Establishment in 2011.

As such, all components of the manufacturing process are evaluated and inspected by the same FDA standards as are used for pharmaceutical products.

Additionally, in several countries around the world, supplements are more highly regulated than in the United States. In Australia, for example, the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) mandates that manufacturers follow a set of GMP identical to pharmaceutical GMP in the United States. As an Australian supplier, USANA is regularly inspected and audited by the TGA to ensure that their GMP standards are met.

Your health—and the health of your family and friends—is important to us. At the end of the day, you can be sure that we take every step possible in our manufacturing processes to ensure that what is on the label is what’s in the final product that’s shipped to your door.

USANA Probiotic makes a beautiful day in the digestive neighbourhood

Share Button

Do you know our body is more bacteria than human?

90% of the human body, in fact, is made up of symbiotic microbial flora, most of which are necessary for keeping us alive and healthy.

You could think of your body as a bunch of different bacterial communities all living in different neighbourhoods – your mouth, your nose, your reproductive system.

The most crowded block of bacterial communities is in our digestive system. It’s important that we have plenty of good bacterial residents in our digestive neighbourhood to keep it from going down the proverbial toilet. If the bad bacterial element moves in and takes over, it can give us some trouble (sometimes on the literal toilet ): constipation or “the opposite problem”, bloating, gas or flatulence, cramps, etc.

Fortunately, it’s fairly easy to maintain a proper balance of good bacteria in our digestive system with a healthy diet and the help of probiotic.

Let’s see what probiotic can help with the following common health issues:

Researchers from the Norwegian University of Science and Technology found that where there was a family history of allergy or eczema, women who took a probiotic supplement in the last month of pregnancy and the first few months of breastfeeding saw a 40 per cent reduction in the incidence of eczema in children up to age two. As well as genetic predisposition, children are prone to picking up infections. Bacteria, such as lactobacilli species and bifidobacteria, are help to boost immunity and may help to boost children’s immunity.

Your intestine (gut) needs to be porous to allow nutrients to be absorbed into your body. But, because of this, it’s also vulnerable to invasion. Disease-producing bacteria such as Clostridium difficile (C. diff for short) can move; it’s the toxin that this bacterium produces that can cause unwelcome Diarrhoea, especially in hospital settings particularly if you are elderly and/or frail increases the risk. Infection may mean that you doctor prescribes antibiotics which doesn’t discriminate – it kills all bacteria in the intestine including the beneficial kinds.

Research presented at the American College of Gastroenterology’s (ACG) meeting showed taking probiotics before beginning a course of antibiotics cuts the risk of developing antibiotic-associated diarrhoea by about 60 per cent according to researcher Dr Rabin Rahmani, a gastroenterologist at Maimonides Medical Center in New York.

Rahmani and colleagues reviewed 22 studies involving more than 3,000 patients who took probiotics for an average of 1.5 weeks. Probiotic helps to restore the balance of beneficial bacteria to the intestinal tract.

Lactose intolerance

Unpleasant gut symptoms after consuming varying amounts of lactose (the simple sugar found in milk) are a sign of lactose intolerance. It is easier to tolerate lactose in yogurt compared with the same amount of lactose in milk because bacteria produce the enzyme lactase (which digests lactose). This makes lactose easier to digest. So, probiotic with lactobacillus bacteria may help ease symptoms of lactose intolerance.

Other gut disorders

Small amounts of short term inflammation help to fight infection. But constantly high levels of it can cause swelling, pain and damage to tissues.

Ongoing inflammation is associated with conditions such as irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) and it stresses the gut lining making it more prone to damage. Beneficial bacteria are affected by stress, too, reducing their numbers.

Restoring friendly bacteria not only helps reduce the chances of infection but also inflammation. They do this by blocking disease-causing bacteria from sticking to the intestinal lining and also by obstructing chemicals involved in inflammation. ?

Overdoing alcohol

Too much alcohol alters gut bacteria and one sign of a stressed liver (due to overindulgence in alcohol) is raised liver enzymes. Probiotics help to restore healthy intestinal flora.

Having a healthy gut flora increases the water content of waste matter. This enhances muscular contractions in the gut making it easier for the body to expel waste and reducing the time that waste stays in contact with the cells of the large intestine.

USANA Probiotic

USANA Probiotic, which is now even better with a formula that is dairy- and sugar-free! USANA Probiotic uses patented strains Lactobacillus rhamnosus LGGe and Bifidobacterium BB-12e because they are well-documented to survive transit through the acidic stomach environment. This is important, because the bacteria aren’t going to do you any good if they die the second you swallow them. Because our USANA product is in a stick pack, we are able to give you a higher effective dose with a much longer shelf life than most of the yogurt-type products out there — specifically, 12 billion colony forming units at the time of manufacture with an 18-month shelf life. Plus, if you don’t like yogurt, you don’t have to eat it with USANA Probiotic! You can take the product straight from the package or mix it with any cold food or beverage. Talk about your health, your way. Regularly taking USANA Probiotic — along with USANA Fibergy Plus, which acts as a prebiotic to help us grow our own natural, beneficial bacteria—can help our digestive system work efficiently, help our immune system function properly, and help line the wall of our gut to keep it healthy. Intestinal bacteria are sort of like the digestive Neighbourhood Watch — with the good communities helping keep the peace and deal with troublemakers. And you can give them strength in numbers by sending in extra aid with USANA Probiotic.

According to scientists at London’s Royal Free hospital, a good probiotic needs to:

  • Reach the gut without being killed off by strong stomach acids along the way
  • Be safe for human consumption
  • Have clinically proven health benefits demonstrated by scientific trials
  • Have their contents clearly defined
  • Be clearly labelled
  • Be shelf stable.

USANA Probiotic ticks all the boxes!

Question:   How do I determine which USANA products are right for me?

USANA understands that each of us has a unique health profile and thus unique nutritional needs. Part of a lifelong program of good nutrition is recognizing that we all have different nutritional needs, and that our needs change as we move from one stage of life to the next. For each one of us, a unique combination of age, sex, lifestyle, and other considerations demand a nutritional program that is both flexible and customized. USANA Nutritionals comprise both the Essentials and the Optimizers to successfully meet this challenge. The Essentials products provide the foundation of USANA’s Nutritional system. The Optimizers allow you to customize a nutritional system for your individual needs. By using the following two-step process, you can create a complete nutritional program to fit your nutritional needs.

First, choose between the Usanimals for children, Body Rox for teens, or USANA Essentials for adults.

Next, choose the Optimizers that suit your individual needs. Optimizers are grouped by label color in categories according to their primary benefits. You will find Optimizers that support cardiovascular health, skeletal/structural health, immune health, and more.

USANA HealthPak 100 includes both Essentials and selected optimizers. The contents of the “Ask the Scientists” site are for informational purposes only.

If you are new to USANA Products, we suggest you use our cutting edge tool – USANA online true health assessment program to get your recommended products list with priority from high to low by providing some health and diet information to the tool.

Question:  Can USANA make product recommendations for specific medical conditions?

We are committed to providing you with current scientific information regarding the composition, manufacture, and use of USANA products, and with up-to-date information regarding the role of nutrition in health.

We strongly believe that the consistent use of high quality nutritional supplements may play a role in the prevention of certain chronic degenerative diseases. However, there are a few cases where nutritional supplements may not be appropriate.

In these instances we are unable to provide you with medical and medication advice. Instead, we suggest you seek the guidance of our nutritionists or health consultants by calling our Australia Toll free number:  1800821914.

Our health consultants will ask for your medical and medication history and have the USANA Products training and expertise to help you make an informed products recommendation.

We further recommend that, as a basis for such discussions, you provide copies of labels describing the contents of the USANA products in question. This will better enable our health consultants to determine which USANA products may be appropriate for you.

Question:  Can USANA provide comparisons to competitor’s products?

USANA is unable to address questions concerning comparisons with other companies’ products. We are obviously aware of the many competing products on the market. However, since we do not have access to the proprietary details of other companies’ products, it is difficult to make valid comparisons. You can make content comparisons yourself by reviewing product labels. Utilize the information in our literature and website regarding quality of manufacturing and science based formulations.

It is generally just not possible to make fair comparisons without access to information regarding their suppliers, proprietary formulas, and manufacturing practices.

Question: What’s difference between the probiotic found in yogurt and USANA’s Probiotic?

The strains contained! There are many strains of friendly bacteria and ours is renowned for their ability to withstand the harsh acidic environment in our stomach. Being able to flourish in our intestinal tract ensures the potency of the product. USANA Probiotic is not only meant to aid in digestion, but also better manages nutrient absorption, immune health and inflammation control. What’s best about USANA Probiotic is that it’s free from sugar and dairy content. It is suitable for literally everyone.

Is the vitamin c in Proflavanol c100 sufficient for an average person?

I’m afraid it’s not sufficient if we’re looking to promote a long-term optimal level of health in you. Everybody has a different optimal level of daily vitamin C requirement. The fact that vitamin C is a water soluble vitamin means our bodies do not store it for long, and you can never be sure that you have enough of it. This is why nutritionists usually suggest not just a higher level, but also a consistent daily supply of vitamin C. (Note: Too much vitamin C can lead to diarrhoea so watch out for such a sign.)

How do i know what am i missing in my diet?

It’s actually really simple – since there’s no way to accurately gauge what you are missing from your daily diet, listen to your subconscious. If you have thought to yourself, “Hey, perhaps I’m not eating as healthily as I should be.”, you probably should seriously re-look your dietary habits. Marginal deficiencies start once imbalanced dietary habits are practised. Left uncorrected for a prolonged period, unsound nutritional status will start ‘creeping’ in. Many of us choose to remain ignorant but I certainly hope you’re not one of them. On a serious note, degenerative diseases that kill most of our beloved ones today are primarily due to bad dietary choices and poor nutritional status. Make a conscious effort to eat a healthy, balanced diet for a healthier you.
